Adrian Lux at the Yost Theater

Watching Swedish DJ and producer Adrian Lux at the Yost Theater in Santa Ana, CA this past weekend was a treat. I particularly liked the melodic style of music on his playlist, almost all of which were personal remixes of his. Set against a popular Orange County venue, Adrian Lux’s talent was what really stood out. The glow light sabers, which were handed out to patrons, also helped to capture an energetic vibe. If not fans before, I’m sure many were made after experiencing the Stockholm talent’s appealing style of dance music. One particular moment that I enjoyed was when Lux ended the night with fellow Swedes Sebastian Ingrosso & Alesso’s popular hit “Calling.” For me, it’s always a good time when the Swedes come to town.

Straight from Toronto, Dzeko and Torres drop another massive remix—slash bootleg—of the band Of Monsters and Men’s “King and Lionheart.” Enjoy…

My Zoned Out Rotation: Kid Smpl, Owsey, Goldroom, Lemonade, The Drums

For this session I am featuring music which sets a certain mood, with dynamic sounds, rhythms, and the artist’s unique style. These are some of the few artists who have been in my rotation for the past few weeks or so. LA producer/DJ Goldroom’s remix of Niki and the Dove’s (Stockholm) fast moving track “Mother Protect” not only adds energy but infuses a fresh sense of style to the electronic dance music scene. Kid Smpl, from Seattle, demonstrates his solid producing skills with a laid back dub style flow. His spin on Rhianna’s “We Found Love” lends a cool and truthful vibe to the song. Owsey also enhances Birdy’s rendition of Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love.” The Northern Ireland native blends his paced down rhythms and arrangements with Birdy’s (UK) angelic vocals. Other standouts that made it to the top of this edition’s Zoned Out Rotation are Lemonade, an indie rock outfit from Brooklyn, NY and The Drums, also out of Brooklyn (see German producer Trentmoller’s remix). All in all, these are some solid artists to look out for in the future. Keep your eyes and ears pealed…
